I don't really see the argument there, if there was no glenn branca, or Teenage Jesus and the Jerks yes. Sonic Youth are completely different from the minutemen musically (i love both so don't interpret this as me knocking the minutemen. they do share similar ethical stances on artistic integrity but i don't see the musical connection. added to the fact that the minutemen didn't even know much about sonic youth till a January '85 gig in LA its hard to understand your argument

How do the guitars match Reagan's facial expressions so perfectly? Haha... Reagan.

My brother is 3 years older than me and has always had a rather eclectic taste in music. I remember following him to see Minutemen at the L.A. Street Scene the day the punks and cops clashed. Mike Watt had his hard case plastered with Madonna stickers, which even at 13 years old, I appreciated the not-so-subtle irony. I remember hearing that Madonna put the line "Last night I dreamt of San Pedro" in the song La Isla Bonita as a tribute to them. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Don't know I'm afraid, but DUDE, you saw Minutemen? You're part of punk history! My fella showed me the documentary We Jam Econo and it made me so sad that I missed it all.

Radford University Winter 1985 opened for REM

Had been a long time fan of REM but just discovered The Minutemen-they stole the show.

I admit REM was in peak form-slightly ethereal, but The Minutmen tore it up-will never forget!

Oh yeh, just saw We Jam Econo for the first time tonight-INSPIRING to say the least.

Y'all know his goal was to have a blue collar jam-rock-punk band on every block, a club on every other block, and a recording studio on every 4th block-GENIUS! Music for the masses.
